April 14 Rally to Protect Pensions

Teamsters from as far away as Houston, Tampa, and Omaha will join over a thousand from North Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and countless other states as retirees, Teamsters, and allies converge on Washington for a rally at the Capitol to call on the Treasury Department to reject proposed cuts by Central States and demand that Congress protect our earned pensions.

“We know the importance of this fight to defend our retirement security, said Tim Pagel, YRC driver in Houston Local 988. “Our busload is making the long trip because they understand we need to make our voices heard. We earned every penny of our pensions and it’s time Treasury and Congress step up and do what’s right for the little guys and gals that make this country work.”

Pagel is one of hundreds of pension activists building a grassroots army.

Speakers scheduled for the rally include Karen Friedman from the Pension Rights Center, and Rita Lewis, the widow of Butch Lewis – a long time Teamster leader in Cincinnati Local 100. Congressional representatives and Teamster officials will speak as well.

I already know what it is like to loose on our hard earned pension.CSPF and our government unjustly took 55% of our hard earned 37 year pension a total of $85,483.00 since july 1st 2011.I retired in 2010 with 35 years at roadway and 2 years at YRCW because of a disability, I know how bad it hurts. This shouldn’t happen to any of us that earned there pension. i’m glad to see TDU,AARP,PENSION RIGHTS and others are there to fight for all of us.I’ve already paid dearly and they want to take more. again thanks to everyone fighting in washington DC for all of us because there wasn’t anybody and i mean anybody back in 2011 to help me.

The administration of ERISA is divided among the DOL, the IRS of the Dept. of the Treasury and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. The CSPF is protected by the provisions of ERISA that prevent enormous investment losses. The CSPF became severely underfunded while under government supervision, one of the main reasons being enormous investment losses. Government appointed banks are guilty of losing many $billions of CSPF retirement money. Bottom line: The government and the banks owe the the participants their retirements.

Hoffa Refuses to Hold Executive Board Meetings

Teamster members elected a full General Executive Board last November. Now Hoffa refuses to hold regular meetings claiming that “past practice” dictates that he’s not required to hold GEB meetings. This is in direct violation of the Teamster Constitution, which specifically requires that the Board meet once in every quarter.
