  Former federal prosecutor Ed Stier was hired by Hoffa in 1999 to direct the Project Rise anti-corruption task force. But when Stier's inquiries into corruption and organized crime influence got too close to Hoffa's top ally in Chicago, John Coli, Hoffa shut down the investigation. UPDATE: Chicago Local 705 Bargaining with UPS

Local 705, representing over 10,000 UPS Teamsters in the Chicago area, continues to demand a contract with UPS which does not have concessions, and which makes gains for part-timers and retirees. It is possible that the union could give a 30-day notice to the company to cancel the contract extension, which would cause an open contract—and potential strike—in early December.

UPS Freight: An insulting “final offer”

The IBT is serving up an insulting “last best and final” offer from UPS Freight for a vote to be conducted by Local Unions on November 9-10-11 with in-person voting. The offer contains zero improvements in the wage proposal, where a five-year tiny increase would cause wages to fall far behind inflation. It offers no real improvement in the subcontracting language.
