ABF Local-By-Local Contract Vote Results

UPDATED September 11, 2013: The largest supplement to the ABF agreement – the Central Region local cartage agreement – was rejected again, as was the Western Region office supplement. Updated Local-by-Local contract votes are posted here.

The other five supplements which were previously rejected were accepted in the second round of voting.

The IBT Constitution (Article XII, Section 2) provides that after two such rejections, "The master national negotiating committee shall return to the bargaining table and attempt to address the issues… in the event no new tentative agreement is reached, or if the members reject the new tentative agreement, the master committee shall conduct a strike authorization vote" in the supplemental area.

This should give the two groups some leverage to win changes to the agreement. But the Hoffa administration will likely try yet another "vote till you get it right" push. Hoffa and the Freight Division's game is to divide, discourage, and threaten members.

Maybe they can get a contract passed that way, but they cannot build Teamster power like this. They cannot organize. They cannot defend our pension plans.

The Record in Freight

They did nothing to increase Teamster bargaining power at ABF, misled members, then sold management's deal.

They lied to UPS Freight Teamsters and when the members rejected their deal, Hoffa-Hall went into hiding for over two months, and counting.

It looks like a secret deal with YRC may be in the works, and Hoffa cares more about his hedge-fund pal Harry Wilson than YRC Teamsters.

Worst of all, there is no plan to organize in freight or build Teamster power in trucking.

Teamster power is not just about numbers. It's about a strategy to leverage our power across the supply chain, at ports, plants, rail, trucking, warehousing and distribution, and use that power to grow and diversify our union.

Hoffa wouldn't recognize Teamster power if it stole his golf clubs. We need a new leadership with the vision and commitment to make it happen.

WE at YRC Freight CENTRAL REGION LOCAL 710 voted the concesssion package down 2 plus times and never did The IBT take a strike authorization vote? Instead the IBT stripped us of our white paper agreement, then forced us to take the B.S. by pooling us into a vote with the rest of the country! Is that legal cause we YRC Teamsters are done with HOFFA AND the other leaders who back him! 710 keeps blaming the IBT, but truly they too are the problem! Fat cats just collecting a big salary, doing nothing for YRC FREIGHT MEMBERS! Now we are hearing about this second extension to our contract by you people TDU! If true the members have told me they want to strike, and also picket local 710 union hall and the IBT office in Washington D.C.! Can TDU get the permits necessary to stage the pickets? Can TDU get the news to people out there to let the members tell the true story behind YRC & the Teamsters UNION? If so contact me cause we have had enough with the poor representation we are currently getting! YRC recently have been selling at least 200 old trailers to someone? & shipping them out using ABF! Also YRC bought 2000 brand new trailers and terminal manager in Chicago Heights bought a new SUV & boat thanks to the Teamsters Union! When I look at my check with the 15% reduction in pay I have gave back over $7,500 dollars to bank YRC & Teamsters! I am working harder and more hours for less while these fat cats at YRC & TEAMSTERS UNION GET FATTER! IT'S TIME TO MARCH ON THESE M--FERS let them starve and see how it feels! I'm a TRUE TEAMSTER. I FIGHT FOR WHAT I BELIEVE IN AND DON'T ACCEPT BULL SHIT! I HOLD MY LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABLE TO US OR THEY CAN GET OUT! IT'S THAT SIMPLE. DO YOUR JOB OR WE VOTE YOUR ASSES OUT. I feel the same way you do about the I.B.T!!! selling our BS contract at ABF and the way they are handling the whole thing stinks!! I am a third gen teamster and thought I would say this but I would drop the I.B.T in a heartbeat for another union if I had the chance. all my union construction friends as SLOW as the constuction trades got during the recesion never gave up a PENNY!!!!

15 years ago, A large contingent of Teamsters in Freight  were wearing Hoffa Hats and T-Shirts. Hoffa should pay attention, He would be hard pressed to find a member in Freight who would even want to wash a filthy Car with a Hoffa T-Shirt.  I hope when We members finally get Him and his cronies out of office, that We all band together to vote, To cut their Pensions and benefits in their retirement years

Joe and Robert, you're both so RIGHT ON! All of us in freight, ABF, YRC, New Penn, UPS Freight, need to send these clowns at the IBT a big middle finger. I say we all need to at the very least take ourselves off of automatic checkoff for our dues, or howabout throwing some of the IBT's tactics back in their face. You know how the only way they can seem to get new members lately is to highjack and steal from other unions? What about the idea of a decertification vote from the IBT? What could the TWU or IAM do for us that the IBT can't seem to? I don't know, might be worth finding out though, just to see our "leadership" quake in their shoes over the mere thought of it. I've always wondered why New England Motor Freight chooses to be represented by the IAM instead of the IBT, I guess now I know.     Could we all strike? Now that there is no more NMFA and everybody has seperate contracts, how can we?      Somebody please tell me at the least that Sandy Pope will be running again in the next general president election.

i can not believe what i saw people actually voted for those supplments in the Central and Western region. with all the misrepresentation going on, at ups, ups freight and yrc, vote results should have been hands hell no. it is no longer an isolated problem/cause. ALL bargaining unit members from all companies need to band together as 1 unit to fight for workers rights for the present and the future. History is repeating itself these are the times of Hoffa Sr.a real leader
