UPSers: Protect Yourself When Filling Out MVDC

January 16, 2013: UPS management always cracks down on discipline after peak. Drivers, protect yourselves when filling out your Motor Vehicle Driver Certification Form (MVDC).

UPS is having drivers fill out the annual Motor Vehicle Driver Certification Form (MVDC).  January is also the time when management starts to increase write-ups and discipline.

A Center Manager who is looking for any excuse to exploit a mistake on an MVDC to discipline and even terminate a driver for "dishonesty."

Protect yourself. Many drivers write "No violations to the best of my knowledge" on their MVDC.

Even better, if you're not 100% sure about your record, tell your manager that you need to check your abstract before you fill out your MVDC.

Many states allow you to get your Driver Record Abstract online for a small fee. Check your record and then fill out the MVDC honestly.

If your license is suspended, you must notify management immediately.

If you may have made a mistake on your MVDC, the time to correct it is now, not after the company discovers the mistake and turns it into a dishonesty issue.

Get a copy of your Driver Record Abstract, tell management that you made a mistake on your original form, and fill out a corrected form.
