Louisville Teamsters Go for Leedham
December 5, 2005: UPSers in Louisville were among the more than 55,000 Teamsters who signed the petition to officially accredit the Tom Leedham Strong Contracts, Good Pensions Slate as candidates in the 2006 Teamsters election.
Before the petition drive, Louisville Teamsters scored a major victory when the United Rank & File Slate swept all 27 delegate and alternate positions in the Convention Delegate election in Local 89–defeating Hoffa’s Carhaul Director Fred Zuckerman.
The vote was the the biggest delegate race held to date. Local 89 is the fourth largest local in the Teamsters Union.
The Strong Contracts, Good Pensions Slate will need the backing of 5 percent of the delegates at the Teamster Convention in June to be officially nominated. Teamster locals across North America will be electing delegates in balloting to be held from January to March 2006.
