Courier-Journal: Local 89 Ends Strike at Ford
August 26, 2008: A deal with Ford Motor Co. to bring in a new transportation company ended a Teamsters strike yesterday that had blocked shipment of vehicles from the Louisville Assembly Plant and the Kentucky Truck Plant for a week.
"We have been able to save the jobs ... and maintain the integrity of the contract," Teamsters Local 89 President Fred Zuckerman said.
Jack Cooper Transport Co. of Kansas City, Mo., will take over Ford rail yards from Auto Port, the Flat Rock, Mich., company that the Teamsters struck on Monday, Zuckerman said.
