Carhaul Agreement Under Wraps

September 22, 2008. The carhaul employers and the union negotiating committee have reached a second proposed agreement, but so far the union leadership is not revealing what’s in it.

As soon as it is available in writing, TDU will post it for all affected Teamsters to review. We expect to post it by Friday, Sept. 26, the date of the meeting of officers from all carhaul local unions.

If the proposed agreement falls short of a No Giveaways contract, we expect the International Union to try to hurry up the vote, to try to catch members off guard.

Last month, members voted to reject the first proposed contract—despite employer threats and a hard sell from Hoffa administration officials. Carhaul employers demanded the most concessionary contract in the history of the industry. Hoffa and IBT Carhaul Director Fred Zuckerman not only agreed to the givebacks—they aggressively promoted them to Teamster members.

Carhaul Teamsters are ready to review the second offer to see if it protects the jobs and conditions of all members.
