Allied Lowers Speed and Drivers’ Pay
November 14, 2008: In early November Teamster carhaulers at Allied learned that management will turn the governed speed in all tractors down from 66 mph to 62, and many drivers are not happy about it. This amounts to a big pay cut or increase in work time for some drivers who pull trips in states with speed limits of 65 mph or higher.
Allied’s unilateral move violates an established past practice. Grievances have been filed at some terminals. At one terminal, the drivers won a return to 66 mph tractors. In Cottage Grove, Minn. the steward pressed the issue, and management quickly backed off.
If one terminal can win the issue, why can’t Zuckerman solve it nationally? Teamster carhaulers have a right to know.
