IBT Names Mike Hienton Central Region Freight Director

Recently appointed National Freight Director Ernie Soehl has chosen Cleveland Local 407 Vice President Mike Hienton as the Central Region Freight coordinator. He replaces Akron Local 24 President Travis Bornstein, who had worked under Tyson Johnson and Gordon Sweeton.

Johnson and Sweeton both retired after losing their IBT vice president positions in the IBT election.

Cleveland Local 407 was virtually the only freight local in the entire Central Region where Hoffa-Hall carried a majority vote in the IBT election. That appears to be the main qualification for all of Hoffa’s appointments. Hienton has been a Local 407 BA representing YRC and ABF for many years.

Both frustration and expectations are running high as freight Teamsters begin to prepare for contract campaigns at ABF in 2018 and YRC companies in 2019. Contact TDU to get involved.
