Casino workers in Indiana are building unity and sticking together to win health and safety improvements for all workers - union and nonunion alike. 

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Teamsters across the country have been thrust into an unexpected crisis of unforeseeable proportions. At UPS, no sooner did many of us find out that we were a part of the “essential workforce” than we were fighting on the shop floor to protect ourselves from the virus.  

A May 9 Memo from the IBT Freight Division reports that arrangements have been made so that both active YRCW employees and employees laid off after March 1 will have the full 8 weeks of “Layoff Coverage" going forward from May 10 to continue health care coverage, if they are in TeamCare (Central States H&W). This includes both employees who have been actively working and those who may have already used up some of the “layoff coverage.” This extends H&W coverage for YRCW Teamsters presently laid off. TDU members are joining unions and organizations nationwide to fight for an Essential Workers Bill of Rights, including hazard pay and workplace safety protections.

Teamster Ryan Haney (YRC driver, Dallas Local 745) made these face masks. They're union printed. All proceeds from sales go to support the publication of The Teamster Rebel, a  newsletter written by Texas rank and file Teamsters.

The members of Local 171 in Roanoke Virginia give a shout-out to their officers and stewards for stepping up during this crisis. When any employer neglects its frontline workers, we demand action from them. And sometimes, we have to take action ourselves. We salute union leaders who do it!

In a report to all locals representing YRCW members, IBT Freight Director Ernie Soehl told officers that YRC, Holland, New Penn and Reddaway have sought a “grace period” to delay making health and welfare payments to various funds Teamster members are covered under.

UPS Teamsters in Lawnside, NJ have won PPE and improved conditions for hub workers by sticking together to stand up to management. 

Fed up with unsanitary and unsafe working conditions, UPS Teamsters in Nashville Local 480 took action. In less than a week, the company changed its practices and began improving conditions.
