Another top Teamster has endorsed the Central States pension cuts. Bill Lichtenwald, a personal friend of James Hoffa and the head of the Ohio Conference of Teamsters until the Independent Review Board’s corruption report last October, has issued a letter backing the cuts. After the IRB corruption report, Lichtenwald resigned as a trustee of the Central States Fund. 

Tyson Johnson, Hoffa’s Freight Director, directed every local to support the Central States pension cut plan. Now he’s taking credit for defeating the cuts that he supported. That’s one Texas-sized flip-flop. 

Kenneth Feinberg has recommended that the Treasury Department deny the application of the Central States Pension Fund to implement its planned pension cuts.

The U.S. Treasury Department will issue a decision this week whether to approve or disapprove the drastic pension cut plan proposed by the Central States Fund.  A lot is riding on the decision – and even more is riding on what comes after the decision.

While thousands rallied in Washington, D.C. to protest potential cuts to the Central States pension, 300 Teamsters and their families picketed Rep. Jon Kline’s Burnsville, Minnesota office. 

Over 2,000 retirees and Teamsters from 20 states rallied on Capitol Hill today to support the Keep Our Pension Promises Act, and to call on the U.S. Treasury Dept to reject the pension cuts proposed by the Central States Fund.
