Whistleblowers Make Big Brown Pay

With the help of trucking attorney Paul Taylor, TDU member Tim Bishop won $100,000 in back pay and another $100,000 in emotional distress after UPS tried to fire him for recording his wait time at a meet-and-turn point as on-duty time.

“With lawyers like Paul, and an organization like TDU, working Teamsters have a fighting chance when companies do us wrong,” said Bishop.

It wasn’t the first time this year a member had made UPS pay big time. John Youngermann, from Bishop’s same local (Local 688 in St. Louis), won the largest OSHA award ever handed down when he forced UPS to pay $100,000 for illegally firing him when he refused to pull a trailer with inoperable tail lights and side marker lights.
