Hoffa Drops Hours of Service Fight [1]
March 15, 2012: Highway safety advocates filed a new lawsuit challenging the proposed hours-of-service rule published in December 2011, saying it does not go far enough in addressing driver fatigue.
Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, Public Citizen and the Truck Safety Coalition and two truck drivers take issue with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's decision to keep 11 hours driving time and continue to allow the 34-hour restart to reset the weekly driving clock.
The IBT was invited to join the suit but apparently chose not to in an effort to avoid burdening YRC. Teamster members may view issues of their safety as more than a bottom line concern.
