UPS and UPS Freight Ballot Count Day Three [1]

June 22, 2013: Updated: 9:35 p.m. The UPS vote will resume on Sunday. Southern California UPSers have voted overwhelmingly against the tentative agreements in Local 63 and Local 396.

Members in Ontario Local 63 voted 817 No to 401 Yes on the master agreement. Teamsters in Los Angeles Local 396 voted 1,742 No to 463 Yes.  Members in both of these locals are among the 140,000 UPS Teamsters who would see big changes in their healthcare plan under the tentative agreement.

Members in the Eastern Region narrowly approved the master contract: 11,575 Yes and 10,238 No. (53% Yes to 47% No).  Members in the Southern Region voted 7924 Yes to 2315 No.

Our local-by-local chart [2] includes all votes that have been tallied so far.

The national contract has been voted down in Southern California Locals 396 and 63, New Jersey Local 177, Philadelphia Local 623, New York Local 804, North Carolina Local 61, Pittsburgh Local 249 and other Western Pennsylvania locals, Local 384 and other locals in Metro Philadelphia, and in Upstate and Western New York.

Nine supplements have been voted down: Western Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Local 623, Metro Philly, New Jesey Local 177, New York Local 804, and Upstate New York. Two other smaller supplements have been rejected: Pittsburgh Local 926, Latin American Inc. Local 769, and New Jersey Local 177 Mechanics.

The No Vote is heaviest in areas affected where members are being moved out of their healthcare plan. These unpopular changes fueled large Vote No turnouts in Southern California, Philadelphia and metro Philly , New Jersey, Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania.

In contrast, the contract is passing by a large margin in New England, the Atlantic Area and the Southern Region where healthcare for UPS full-timers is not affected by the proposed contract.

A local-by-local chart [2] of the contract votes that have been tallied so far is available here [2]. TDU will continue to update this chart throughout the day and the weekend.

The count will continue through the weekend. The Eastern Region is completed except for Puerto Rico Local 901 where ballots will be picked up on June 24. We will continually update this website and the voting results.

More information on our observers at the count. [3]

There is no official count of total ballots received, but it is projected to be approximately a 38% turnout for UPS package, and 50% for UPS Freight.

No UPS Freight votes are counted yet. UPS Freight vote tallies will be available here [4] as they become available.

Ballots for Local 89 are being picked up now. There will be later post office pick-ups due to extended deadlines for Local 901 (June 24) and Local 135 (June 26).

Stay tuned for updates.
