UPS Folds, Averting Peak Season Strike Action

UPS has agreed to reinstate newly unionized workers in Louisville and Chicago that were illegally laid off in retaliation for organizing with the Teamsters. The reinstatement victory avoids peak season strike action that loomed on Monday.

The laid off workers were specialists and administrative workers who joined Local 89 and Local 705. All affected workers will receive full back pay and return to their positions on their next scheduled workdays.

UPS folded one day after the Teamsters told the company it had until Monday to reinstate the laid off workers or face strike action.

This victory over UPS union-busting is a step toward organizing approximately 6,500 nonunion specialists and other nonunion UPS employees nationwide.
