Amazon Teamsters Elect Reformers to Lead ALU-IBT Local 1

Amazon Teamsters in New York City have elected the Democratic Reform Caucus to lead ALU-IBT Local 1, a new Teamster local.

The Amazon Labor Union inspired the labor movement by winning the first union election at Amazon two years ago of 8,000 workers at Amazon fulfillment center JFK8 on Staten Island, New York.

Since then, ALU has been unable to bring Amazon to the bargaining table.

Last month, Amazon Labor Union members voted to affiliate with the Teamsters by 98.3%

The ALU Democratic Reform Caucus campaigned in favor of affiliating with the Teamsters to build the leverage needed to win a first contract.

“This is a victory for Amazon workers who want to build a democratic, fighting union,” said newly-elected president Connor Spence.

“Amazon workers are joining forces with the Teamsters to take on corporate greed and win a better future. ”
