ABF v YRC Appeal: Decision is Pending

April 12, 2011: Fort Smith-based Arkansas Best Corp appealed the dismissal of its lawsuit against the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and had its day in court this morning. ATA Favors On-Board Recorders

April 12, 2011: American Trucking Associations is endorsing a federal proposal that trucking companies use electronic logging devices to monitor drivers’ compliance with hours-of-service rules. The group said it supported both legislation requiring the electronic logging equipment and a rule proposed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Special Report: Executives Fatten Up, but Won't Hire Workers

April 11, 2011: A special report in The New York Times details how top corporate executives have dramatically raised their own pay. The report concludes that this wealth has "not trickled down" to hiring more workers. An accompanying chart of executive compensation shows the compensation hike for numerous large companies, including Teamster employers such as Waste Management, PepsiCo, Republic, UPS, United Technologies, Safeway, and others.

YRC Shipment Goes Up in Smoke

April 7, 2011: More than a quarter-million dollars worth of marijuana was smuggled into Charlotte, Gaston County police said. A drug-sniffing dog was drawn to beams at YRC Shipping Company on Reames Road, police said. Inside the beams, investigators said, they found 266 pounds of marijuana. Labor Notes: Hoffa Must Pay to Publicize Bribe Attempts

April 5, 2011: After six months of investigation and three months of appeals, court-appointed election overseers have ordered Teamster President James Hoffa to acknowledge that he attempted to buy election support by offering jobs and pensions. LTL Trucker Holland to Hire 1,000 Drivers

March 22, 2011: Regional less-than-truckload carrier Holland will hire nearly 1,000 drivers this year as freight demand accelerates, the YRC Worldwide subsidiary said Monday. YRC Advisor Makes $80,000 per month

March 18, 2011: John Lamar, YRC’s new restructuring officer, will pull down $80,000 per month, in addition to “director compensation” and a possible $500,000 bonus later this year, according to YRCW’s filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Lamar holds positions with other corporations as well. YRC cannot afford to pay for our pensions, but does seem to have money for some people. You can read more here.
