Reformers Win in Fresno Local 431

A rank-and-file reform slate, United for Change Local 431, has defeated the incumbent Local 431 Fresno officers by a 60-40 margin. The results mark a clear mandate from members for a militant and active union.

The United For Change team led by TDU member Justin Scott began as a group of UPS stewards organizing to enforce the contract. They built a coalition with members from Sun-Maid, OK Produce, Republic, Cemex, and more who wanted a fighting union.

“Three years ago I reached out to TDU to get steward training because my local officers weren’t providing anything,” said Jeno Espinoza, UPS steward and Vice-President elect. “For years now we’ve been educating members and training leaders. This election victory didn’t come out of nowhere – it comes out of years of rank-and-file education with the help of TDU.”

The United for Change 431 slate ran on a platform of stronger representation, contract campaigns, and new organizing to grow and secure Local 431’s future.

“We are so excited to begin a new era at Local 431,” said Justin Scott, Local 431 President-elect. “This has and always will be about the members. It’s about building a stronger union. We built our campaign the same way we want to rebuild our union: one conversation at a time, going out to every barn. We want all Teamsters in this Local to be strong, knowledgeable, and united!”
