In Louisville, Teamsters Local 89 members are tabling at a downtown May Day rally to talk with Amazon workers and build community support for organizing Amazon.
In San Diego, Teamsters Local 481 has joined the San Diego & Imperial County Labor Council May Day Rally at Waterfront Park. A rank-and-file Local 481 member is a featured speaker.
In Des Moines, Teamsters Local 90 members are joining the “Workers Over Billionaires” Des Moines May Day Rally at Gray’s Lake.
On May 4, 1886 police in Chicago violently charged a peaceful demonstration in Haymarket Square by workers calling for the eight hour day. Ever since, workers around the world have celebrated May 1 as International Workers Day.
Today, inequality is at an all-time high. Too many Teamsters and other workers are forced to work excessive overtime or multiple jobs to make ends meet.
The original May Day slogan still rings true today: eight hours for work, eight hours for rest, eight hours for what we will! The struggle continues.
