UPS Rescinds Buyout in the Central Region

UPS announced it is rescinding its buyout program in all local unions covered by the Central Region Supplement.

Under UPS's "Driver Choice Program," the company is offering $150,000 in a pre-tax sum to drivers in exchange for permanently separating from the company.

The terms of the buyout were unilaterally imposed by the company without any negotiations with the union.

Local unions across the Central Region filed grievances under Article 19, Section 10 of the Central Region Supplement in opposition to the Driver Choice Program.

The Central Region Supplement has a unique provision that allows the union to strike over grievances that deadlock at the Central Region panel.

In response, UPS management is rescinding the buyout in the Central Region, including for drivers who have already applied. Part-time employees are excluded from the buyout in all regions.
