Pension Activists Speak Out in Washington

Retired Teamsters from the Midwest and the Northeast met with representatives of Senator Bernie Sanders’ staff as well as other Congressional Reps recently to review efforts in support of the Keep Our Pension Promises Act (KOPPA). In this video, some of these grassroots fighters, representative of our pension protection movement, offer their insight and inspiration. Watch it and join the movement to protect pensions for all American workers.

    ❗️❗️ It would be nice if we just could blame the last administration for our problem with our pension. The sad fact is this has been an on going problem since 1982. That’s when the D.O.L was appointed to watch over our pension funds . Because of their gross mismanagement of our funds and total lack of priorities we are very close to insolvency. The D.O.L fail their responsibility to enforce ERISA that would have prevented the loss of BILLIONS of dollars . Our money was also protected by a Federal Agency (PBGC) that guaranteed pensions in this country that is also on the verge of Financial ruins. If we do not come up with a solution fast bankruptcy will become the norm. These are pension that were paid into by taxpayers. Eventually 10 million seniors will have to suffer the consequences of what happens when the government turns a blind eye to retirees in this country. In Divided Vote, IBT Moves Ahead with Pension Threat at ABF

(Reprinted from www.ABFTeamstersUnited.org) A divided IBT General Executive Board voted 13-9 to move ahead with the ABF ratification vote and rejected a motion to fix the pension freeze that threatens the retirement benefits of hundreds of ABF Teamsters.

Notice of ABF Contract Vote

The International union has issued a Notice of Referendum for the ABF contract, which locals are to post on union bulletin boards. The ballot materials will be mailed on Thursday, April 19 and received soon afterward, so voting by internet and phone is just days away.
