April 14 Rally to Protect Pensions

Teamsters from as far away as Houston, Tampa, and Omaha will join over a thousand from North Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and countless other states as retirees, Teamsters, and allies converge on Washington for a rally at the Capitol to call on the Treasury Department to reject proposed cuts by Central States and demand that Congress protect our earned pensions.

“We know the importance of this fight to defend our retirement security, said Tim Pagel, YRC driver in Houston Local 988. “Our busload is making the long trip because they understand we need to make our voices heard. We earned every penny of our pensions and it’s time Treasury and Congress step up and do what’s right for the little guys and gals that make this country work.”

Pagel is one of hundreds of pension activists building a grassroots army.

Speakers scheduled for the rally include Karen Friedman from the Pension Rights Center, and Rita Lewis, the widow of Butch Lewis – a long time Teamster leader in Cincinnati Local 100. Congressional representatives and Teamster officials will speak as well.
