Federal Judge to Rule on What Yellow Owes to Pension Funds

A federal bankruptcy judge will decide whether bankrupt carrier Yellow owes about $1 billion or about $6 billion in unfunded liability to Teamster pension funds.

As reported yesterday, Judge Craig Goldblatt stated it is a difficult decision, involving how to account for funds received by some Teamster pension plans because of the Butch Lewis Act.

Yellow admits they owe nearly $1 billion to regional Teamster funds which did get aid via the Butch Lewis Act. But the Central States Fund and other funds claim that Yellow owes an additional $5 billion.

As Yellow Corporation moves to liquidate its assets, the IBT is fighting for former Yellow Teamsters in court to recover vacation pay, grievance settlements, and other monetary claims.
