UPS Profits Report

UPS hauled in $22.8 billion in revenue in the first quarter and made $930 million in profits. Big Brown projects to make $91.2 billion in revenue for the year and $8.7 billion in profit – all this according to their newly released second quarter earnings report.

UPS told Wall Street they will make more revenue and higher profits than the company did last year. Remember that when management is preaching gloom and gloom at contract time.

It has been a hard year for UPS Teamsters. Carol Tome’s “Better, Not Bigger” will deliver higher profits for UPS shareholders, but chaos on the ground for Teamsters through layoffs, building closures, and uncertainty.

UPS told investors that it has completed its network reconfiguration and Amazon glide-down. That’s corporate speak for building closures and dumping volume.

Fighting Back

We are two years out from contract expiration. Our union’s contract campaign will start sometime next year – and so will the company’s crocodile tears about tough times.

Don’t believe the hype. UPS continues to make billions. Profits will rise. The attacks on Teamster jobs and customer service are not the result of a company in decline. They are business choices by a greedy CEO who cares more about Wall Street than Main Street.

The contract campaign is our chance to fight back.

The last contract was about reversing contract givebacks from the past like two-tier 22.4. The next contract will be about protecting good jobs for the future, including organizing nonunion segments like Roadie and UPS Healthcare.

UPS Teamsters make this company run and we can make UPS deliver for us. The company is profitable and has a bright future. It’s our job to unite to make sure our future is bright too.
