TDU Celebrates Juneteenth

Today, TDU honors the 160th anniversary of Juneteenth, a holiday marking the end of slavery. For the labor movement, Juneteenth represents the fight against the cruelest forms of labor exploitation and racial oppression.

Now a federal holiday, Juneteenth commemorates the day when Major General Gordon Granger, along with more than 1,800 federal troops, arrived in Galveston, Texas to ensure freedom for the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the area.

The Teamsters Union adopted a resolution at the 2021 IBT Convention to work toward establishing Juneteenth as a paid holiday in Teamster contracts.

TDU and the Teamsters Union fight for racial and economic justice for all workers.

The TDU Black Caucus meets every year at the TDU Convention to build a support network among Black Teamsters and share strategies to empower members and combat racial discrimination at work and in our union.

You can register for the 2025 Convention here, and grab a TDU Black Caucus t-shirt here.
