Local unions are holding elections now to choose delegates and alternate delegates for the upcoming Teamsters Convention where candidates will be nominated for General President and all International Union officer positions.

The delegate elections are supervised by an independent Election Supervisor who investigates protests and enforces members’ rights in the IBT election.
Nominations are being held at membership meetings in January through March with voting by mail ballot. You can see the timeline for the Convention Delegate election in your local union on the Election Supervisor’s website.
In addition to voting to nominate candidates for International Union leadership, Convention Delegates can also vote to make changes to the Teamster Constitution.
In 2021, Sean O’Brien, Fred Zuckerman and TDU worked together to pass constitutional reforms to make strike benefits on day one, include rank-and-file Teamsters on all contract bargaining committees, and to require majority rule on all contract votes by eliminating the two-thirds rule.
To get on the ballot, candidates for International Union office need to be nominated by five percent of the Convention Delegates. That will be approximately 80 delegates. Regional candidates need to be nominated by five percent of the delegates from their region.
The independent Election Supervisor certified the O'Brien-Zuckerman Teamsters United Slate as officially accredited candidates after they turned in 127,642 signatures signed by Teamster members.
OZ Teamsters United are the only candidates who submitted enough petition signatures to be accredited. No candidates for International Union office have ever been successfully nominated at the Teamster Convention who were not able to collect enough accreditation petition signatures.
