What We Do

UPS TEAMSTERS UNITED CAMPAIGN

177.jpgNY TDU activists are mobilizing thousands of UPS Teamsters to fight for higher part-time wages and good full-time jobs at the largest private-sector union employer in New York City.

FIGHT FOR ECONOMIC JUSTICE

Fight-econ-justice.pngTDU members fight for economic justice—from defending affordable healthcare to opposing pension cuts and contract givebacks. We’re uniting Teamster members to fight for fair contracts in 2017-2018.

EDUCATION FOR WORKER POWER

education-worker-power.jpgTDU is the place where New York Teamsters turn to get information on our rights and how to organize workers to enforce them.

FIGHITNG CORRUPTION & REFORMING OUR UNION

fighting-corruption.jpgTDU helps members take on union officials who stand with the employers, instead of the members. We proudly support Teamsters United, the reformers that won the majority of the vote from U.S. Teamsters in the International Union election.

SOCIAL & ECONOMIC JUSTICE

social-econ-justice.jpgThe labor movement is about fighting for all working people. That’s why NY TDU members have teamed up with the Fight for 15, Occupy Wall Street, the Climate Justice March and other campaigns for economic and social justice.

FIGHTING DISCRIMINATION

fighting-discrimination.jpgWhen management at a Bronx-based grocery warehouse banned Arlena Dean, a "proud African-American lesbian Teamster," from using the women's locker room, she fought back and won.

The bosses ordered Arlena to change in a broom closet across the hall from the men's bathroom.

Dean organized with her co-workers. She filed a discrimination grievance and launched a support petition. More than 100 workers signed in solidarity.

Dean's organizing paid off. The company built a new union locker room for all Teamster women employees—gay and straight.

"I've never lived my life in the closet and I wasn't about to change in one," Dean said. "I've put up with a lot of harassment and discrimination. I wasn't going to stop until I got justice."
