Federal Judge: Yellow Must Pay Pension Funds the Owed Withdrawal Liability

The federal judge overseeing the bankruptcy of Yellow Freight ruled on Sept 13 that the carrier owes Teamster pension funds withdrawal liability. The amount that Yellow will pay the funds is not yet specified, but will exceed $1 billion.

The funds, including the big Central States Fund and others in New York and Western Pennsylvania, won the case, after Yellow claimed they owed zero due to the Butch Lewis Act providing assistance to the funds.
