Yellow Teamsters Brace for Company Shutdown

In a memo, Teamsters Freight Director John A. Murphy wrote that “Yellow appears to be headed to a complete shutdown within the next few days.” It is a sad day for Yellow Teamsters who built a once-proud company and our union.

After narrowly averting a strike last week over Yellow’s default on a $50 million Health and Welfare payment, the International Union met with representatives from Yellow this week to seek solutions and keep Yellow operating.

Yellow Teamsters have sacrificed and repeatedly given concessions to keep the company operating. But Yellow’s mismanagement has sent the company into a debt-fueled death spiral.

“While we are continuing to [meet], we have no good news to report, and the likelihood that Yellow will survive is increasingly bleak,” wrote Murphy.

Yellow members are advised to take home all personal belongings and tools from terminals.
