CEO Collects $521,000, as YRC Teamster Work Given to Nonunion Operators

YRCW CEO James Welch just sold 42,000 shares of YRCW stock he was given for $521,000, which is a fine bonus.  Maybe it’s time to lift some of the concessions drivers gave to make exec bonuses so lucrative.

Los Angeles Teamsters photographed nonunion operators pulling trailers in and out, headed for the rail yard, while Teamster drivers sit home.

What’s wrong with this picture?

What’s wrong is an International Freight Division that is in bed with the corporation, and which will do nothing to defend Teamster jobs.

Not the drivers’ jobs or the clerks’ jobs, which have been subcontracted overseas.

How about boosting starting pay, so more drivers could be hired? Management (and some union officials) whine about how they can’t find drivers. Every YRC Teamster knows the reason: starting pay is too low!

How about stopping subcontracting out work? It’s rampant at YRC and even worse at UPS Freight.

Strikers Turn Up the Heat at Oak Harbor

November 14, 2008: Oak Harbor Freight is refusing to bargain in good faith. Striking Teamsters are turning up the heat and making the company pay. Company revenue is down 35 percent since the beginning of the strike—and they have temporarily lost half their customers. Striking drivers have sent roving pickets to...

UPDATE: Chicago Local 705 Bargaining with UPS

Local 705, representing over 10,000 UPS Teamsters in the Chicago area, continues to demand a contract with UPS which does not have concessions, and which makes gains for part-timers and retirees. It is possible that the union could give a 30-day notice to the company to cancel the contract extension, which would cause an open contract—and potential strike—in early December.

UPS Freight: An insulting “final offer”

The IBT is serving up an insulting “last best and final” offer from UPS Freight for a vote to be conducted by Local Unions on November 9-10-11 with in-person voting. The offer contains zero improvements in the wage proposal, where a five-year tiny increase would cause wages to fall far behind inflation. It offers no real improvement in the subcontracting language.
