International Union Denies Deal on UPS Drop Boxes

Members who have contacted the Parcel Division have been told that our union has made no agreement with UPS to allow the company to use Air Drivers to pick up ground packages from drop boxes. The Parcel Division has advised members to file grievances on all violations. Article 40 of the contract prohibits Air Drivers from handling ground packages except under a narrowly defined “exception basis.” This language exists to stop the company from exploiting...

First Big Contract Test at UPS

February 18, 2008: UPS has launched a new contract-busting program to use air drivers to pick up ground packages at a substandard rate of pay. This is the first big test of the new UPS contract. Our International Union must answer the call and stop the company from undermining high-paid, full-time jobs at UPS. UPS announced on Feb. 15 that it now accepts ground packages in its drop boxes and that Air Drivers will pick...

Freight Contract Vote Results

February 10, 2008: Most of the 39,000 votes on the NMFA have been counted, and the national contract is passing by nearly a 2-1 margin. The joint company-union campaign of fear and despair convinced most freight Teamsters that they had to accept it. In many areas, the majority said No. These include some of our stronger locals, such as Detroit Local 299, Cleveland Local 407, Cincinnati Local 100, Milwaukee Local 200, Rockford Local 325, New...

Carhaul: Can a Two-Year Contract Help Rebuild Teamster Power?

February 1, 2008: In late January Teamster carhaul officials met to screen contract proposals and formulate demands for the national contract that expires May 30. Hopefully the good proposals submitted by members and locals will be put on the table, but the fact remains that a large chunk of Teamsters carhaulers are stuck under the 2007 Allied concession deal that lasts another two years. This creates a tough bargaining climate for our union. The 17.5...

January 31, 2008: Numerous Teamsters have contacted TDU to complain about the fact that their social security number was printed on the mailing label of the Teamster magazine this month. The International Union no doubt has been flooded with complaints over this blunder. The IBT’s response is that this was a one-time mistake, and they have taken steps to insure that it will not happen again. We hope and trust that is accurate.
