Journal of Commerce: ABF Hungry for Freight

May 19, 2009: The trucking industry will have to see a significant freight volume increase before beleaguered carriers return to profitability, a leading trucking executive says.

“It’s going to take about a 10 to 15 percent increase in volume to turn the industry profitable,” Arkansas Best President and CEO Robert A. Davidson said May 19 at the Wolfe Reasearch Global Transportation Conference in New York.

Central States Assets Fall – But Relief is Coming!

The assets of the Central States Pension Fund fell to $9.8 billion at the end of March, a drop of $573 million in the first quarter.  The fund projects forward that it will pay $2.83 billion in pension benefits this year, while taking in $651 million in employer contributions.
