Five hundred fifty Teamsters came together at TDU’s 50th TDU Convention to share strategies for building union power from the bottom up and to set our course for the coming year, including endorsing and helping to re-elect the O’Brien-Zuckerman Teamsters United Slate.

Members elected the 92 Teamsters United Slate to lead Teamsters Local 92 in Canton, Ohio. The election capped off a grassroots campaign that united members from UPS, Republic Services, Pepsi and other employers.

More than 200 Cincinnati Local 100 Teamsters are celebrating a contract campaign victory at Zenith Logistics, a third-party operator for Kroger. Zenith Teamsters ratified the contract unanimously, 118-0. Their new contract includes a nearly $5 raise in the first year and replaces company health coverage with TeamCare.

UPS announced third quarter profits of $2 billion. The company slashed 34,000 operational jobs and Wall Street cheered. UPS shares rose 8%. Make no mistake—this company and its investors don’t give a damn about the Teamsters who create their wealth.

The Independent Election Supervisor has issued an important decision, protecting members and a local union officer from retaliation. Richmond Local 322 principal officer Brian Peyton was cited and fined for retaliating against a union officer because he campaigned on behalf of the O’Brien-Zuckerman slate.

The Rules for the International Union election are out and are being enforced. Filing election protests isn’t bullying. It’s democracy at work. 

Our Teamsters Union has the most democratic elections and election rules of any major union—and it didn’t happen by accident. TDU worked hard to secure fair rules, and we continue to work to maintain democratic rules and an independent Election Supervisor. 

The independent Election Supervisor has certified the O'Brien-Zuckerman Teamsters United Slate as officially accredited candidates after OZ Teamsters United turned in 127,642 signatures signed by Teamster members. Read the Election Supervisor notice here.

New legislation has been introduced in the House that would require employers to bargain with newly organized workers within 10 days of voting to form their union.

An Administrative Law Judge slapped down UPS Healthcare’s latest legal shenanigans and ordered them to begin bargaining with Teamsters Local 439.
