Taking on the Roadie Threat

UPS is trying to steal Teamster work by subcontracting to Roadie and RoadieXD. These deliveries should be done by Teamster drivers making Teamster wages. Teamsters are already taking on this fight in the grievance procedure. In 2028, it will move to the bargaining table and possibly the strike line.

Roadie and Roadie XD

Roadie subcontractors do same-day deliveries from commercial businesses like Home Depot to customers. RoadieXD delivers bulky items from a warehouse.

Drivers for both companies are independent contractors who work off of an app.

Both Roadie and RoadieXD violate the contract’s restriction on subcontracting, including Article 1, Section 4 of the National Master Agreement which bans UPS from duplicating “the Employer’s common carrier operations.”

Grievances filed by Local 25, 804, 177 and 70 were deadlocked at the national grievance panel and will be heard in front of an arbitrator this fall.

More local unions are documenting violations and filing grievances. You can help.

Document Grievances

Teamsters can help gather evidence for grievances against Roadie and RoadieXD.

Members should document any evidence that Roadie or RoadieXD are performing UPS work or using UPS’s network, equipment, or facilities.

  • Roadie packages entering UPS facilities.
  • UPS trailers moving Roadie packages
  • UPS drivers handling packages with a Roadie label
  • Any situations where RoadieXD freight is moving through the UPS feeder network.

Evidence can be sent to [email protected].

Local 804 President and Eastern Region Package Director Vincent Perrone is coordinating the IBT’s Roadie enforcement project.

A Fight to the Finish

If the company gets its way, more deliveries will be done by its non-union subsidiaries.

UPS packages should be delivered by Teamsters making good union wages.

We’re taking on that fight from the grievance procedure to the bargaining table and beyond if necessary. This is a strike issue and we need to be ready.
