Today’s WSJ: News for ABF Teamsters

The Wall Street Journal reports today reports that truck driver wages are up “15 to 18%” and are going to go up faster, due to a shortage of qualified drivers. This news comes as the Hoffa administration says ABF drivers should be happy with raises from 1.2% to 1.8% per year.

The Wall Street Journal Report, “Truck Driver Salaries Rising on Surging Demand” notes “truck-driver salaries rose between 15% and 18% from 2013 to 2017” and that they are “up even more” this year.

Harrisburg Local 776: Enforce YRC Contract and Protect Pensions

May 22, 2009: Harrisburg Local 776 has called for the International Union to enforce the national freight contract regarding pensions for YRC Teamsters. May 19, 2009: The top executive of troubled trucking giant YRC Worldwide challenged investment analysts and predicted his company would be profitable again by the end of third quarter. Carhaul Director Kevin Moore announced Teamsters at Jack Cooper have accepted a “Restructuring Term Sheet” that allows for concessions under the current carhaul contract. The company claimed they needed new terms to stay in business. The vote was 868 Yes to 427 No.

Members Challenge Hoffa Takeover of Chicago Local 786

Members and officers in Chicago Local 786 are challenging Hoffa's takeover of their union. They say Hoffa's authorized trusteeship serves Hoffa power brokers in the Joint Council like Terry Hancock, and the former JC 25 President John Coli who has plead guilty to taking employer payoffs and is headed to jail. This summer, Joint Council offices were raided by FBI agents. An investigation is ongoing.
