CEO Collects $521,000, as YRC Teamster Work Given to Nonunion Operators

YRCW CEO James Welch just sold 42,000 shares of YRCW stock he was given for $521,000, which is a fine bonus.  Maybe it’s time to lift some of the concessions drivers gave to make exec bonuses so lucrative.

Los Angeles Teamsters photographed nonunion operators pulling trailers in and out, headed for the rail yard, while Teamster drivers sit home.

What’s wrong with this picture?

What’s wrong is an International Freight Division that is in bed with the corporation, and which will do nothing to defend Teamster jobs.

Not the drivers’ jobs or the clerks’ jobs, which have been subcontracted overseas.

How about boosting starting pay, so more drivers could be hired? Management (and some union officials) whine about how they can’t find drivers. Every YRC Teamster knows the reason: starting pay is too low!

How about stopping subcontracting out work? It’s rampant at YRC and even worse at UPS Freight.

Most drivers we've talked to have not heard about it yet. We don't know if management intends to enforce this new policy or not, or what the union leadership will do about it. The policy statement indicates that they intend to force drivers to sign it. Since when do Teamsters...

The Northwest Teamsters, members of Locals 162, 174, 206, 324, and 962 in Oregon and Washington, have had a contract with Reddaway for decades. The economics of the rejected deal were negotiated by IBT Freight Division representatives without involvement of Local Union representatives and stewards from the affected...

Brokers Take Union Work in Sacramento

By David Loyd, UPS Freight, Local 150, Sacramento, Calif. We here in the South Sacramento service center need to be added to the report on UPS Freight subcontracting. In the past seven months we have lost 10 road jobs. Prior to June, 2008, our terminal had three sleeper teams scheduled to Harrisburg, Penn., two to Kansas City, Kan. (making a turn and a half), and two to Dallas (also making a turn and a half)....

Time to Take on Subcontracting at UPS Freight

February 26, 2010: UPS Freight Teamsters have filed over 40 national grievances to close the loophole on subcontracting at UPS Freight. Will the IBT take action to protect Teamster jobs? UPS Freight management is using the one-way loophole in Article 44 and driving load after load right through it. Teamster drivers are laid-off while subcontractors are hauling our loads. Now the IBT has a chance to stop it. UPS Freight Subcontracting Read TDU's report, see...

Enforcing the UPS Freight Contract

February 26, 2010: As the January Teamster Voice reported, subcontracting is a big issue at UPS Freight. But it’s not the only issue. Members from around the country reported in on a range of problems in response to our initial survey on subcontracting. Kansas City Subcontracting remains a big concern and there are other issues, but members report a small victory. A grievance was won on the right to request single vacation days. Teamsters must...
