A part-time UPS worker from Brooklyn is hoping to send his Teamsters union leadership a message on Nov. 15: “You’re out!”

Trinidadian-born Dave Loobie, 40, is the first part-time worker to ever run for a union position at the International Brotherhood of Teamsters — one of the largest and most well-known labor organizations in the world.

With the future of the Teamsters Union at stake, the International Union election outcome comes down to this: turnout.  If Teamsters United volunteers can boost turnout, Fred Zuckerman will be the General President, and our union will be on the road to recovery.

Today, UPS announced third-quarter profits of $1.27 billion after taxes. Profits aren’t the only thing that’s up at UPS. Harassment is up and the number of UPS Teamsters voting against Hoffa is up too!

Once-thought extinct, a group of freight Teamsters for Hoffa has been spotted. These undecideds are voting for Hoffa to thank him for a whopping 10¢ increase in their pension contribution. 

The Central States Pension Fund ended the second quarter on June 30, 2016, with $15.6 billion in assets, down $500 million since the start of the year, according to the Financial and Analytical Report obtained and reviewed by Teamsters for a Democratic Union (TDU).

At last, November’s election deadline is almost here—clinching a dramatic race that featured a nail-biter of a nomination contest, a raucous convention, and an email scandal. Few undecided voters are left. The candidates have painted starkly different visions for the future of jobs, health care, retirement, and democracy itself. Now the outcome depends on how effectively each side can turn out its votes.

Leaders and activists from the Teamster pension protection movement were honored at a gala hosted by the Pension Rights Center on October 6 in Washington, D.C.
