For the fourth time this week, Verizon strikers have shut down the company’s scab dispatch operations in New York City, despite UPS intervening against the strikers.

Verizon strikebreakers have been thrown out of three New York City hotels thanks to direct action by striking CWA members, solidarity from the hotel workers’ union and Teamsters Local 814.

While thousands rallied in Washington, D.C. to protest potential cuts to the Central States pension, 300 Teamsters and their families picketed Rep. Jon Kline’s Burnsville, Minnesota office. 

Over 2,000 retirees and Teamsters from 20 states rallied on Capitol Hill today to support the Keep Our Pension Promises Act, and to call on the U.S. Treasury Dept to reject the pension cuts proposed by the Central States Fund.

A Fayette Circuit Court jury awarded $5.3 million in damages to eight black men who had filed a 2014 lawsuit alleging a hostile work environment at UPS in Lexington.

“The verdict of the jury maybe will change things at UPS, because they really need change,” said UPS tractor-trailer driver William Barber, 54, a plaintiff who continues to be employed by the company. “...We hope UPS sees this and addresses the situation.”
