UPS Profits Soar, Wants Givebacks
UPS announced first quarter profits of $1.35 billion today and told Wall Street that its profits for the year will top $6 billion.
The company’s strong profits are good news for UPS Teamsters and give us leverage in contract negotiations.

Teamsters United reports that UPS has a contract proposal on the table that gives the company the right to force package drivers to work up to 70 hours a week anytime they deem it necessary “to avoid service disruptions.”
In Divided Vote, IBT Moves Ahead with Pension Threat at ABF
(Reprinted from www.ABFTeamstersUnited.org) A divided IBT General Executive Board voted 13-9 to move ahead with the ABF ratification vote and rejected a motion to fix the pension freeze that threatens the retirement benefits of hundreds of ABF Teamsters.
Notice of ABF Contract Vote
The International union has issued a Notice of Referendum for the ABF contract, which locals are to post on union bulletin boards. The ballot materials will be mailed on Thursday, April 19 and received soon afterward, so voting by internet and phone is just days away.
Today’s WSJ: News for ABF Teamsters
The Wall Street Journal reports today reports that truck driver wages are up “15 to 18%” and are going to go up faster, due to a shortage of qualified drivers. This news comes as the Hoffa administration says ABF drivers should be happy with raises from 1.2% to 1.8% per year.
