Metro New York Teamsters will face off to raise money for the upcoming International Union election campaign at Bowling Against Givebacks at Bowl360 in Ozone Park on Sunday, May 17 at 1 pm.

The 2019 Financial Report of the Central States Pension Fund shows that fund assets dropped to $12.3 billion, as retirement payouts far outstrip the income from employers remaining in the fund. The net loss on the year was $857 million, and the Fund continues to predict insolvency in 2025, unless action comes soon.

Continued erosion of the assets of the Central States Pension Fund and the pension back-stop, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, demand immediate Congressional solutions as reported here.

James P. Hoffa announced today that he will not be seeking re-election in the 2021, in a memo to Teamster officers, locals and staff.

Just hours later, Steve Vairma announced his candidacy for Teamster President. Vairma is the Secretary Treasurer of Denver Local 455, the President of Joint Council 3, an IBT vice president and the director of the IBT Warehouse Division.

Corrupt Teamster Vice President Rome Aloise faces new charges for racketeering, retaliation, and knowingly bringing harm to a Teamster.  His days as a Teamster are numbered.

Hoffa is retiring as General President at the end of next year, and he wants to take Teamster democracy with him. Last week, Hoffa told the press about a plan to block contested elections for International Union office, beginning in 2026. We can’t let that happen. 

Teamster members won’t vote for International Union officers until 2021, but the election is officially underway. An impartial Election Supervisor has been appointed and election rules have been proposed.
